New York Yankees Make a Decision on Star Pitcher; What it Means
The New York Yankees' rotation is about to get a little bit healthier.
On Sunday, the Yankees plan to have Luis Severino start against the Cincinnati Reds.
Severino, who made two rehab starts, is returning from a strained lat that has kept him sidelined since the final week of Spring Training.
In Severino's absence, the Yankees' starting staff has posted a 4.25 ERA, which is No. 15 in baseball, entering play on Friday. But it will be good for them to get back their former ace.
The return of Severino means that either Jhony Brito or Clarke Schmidt loses their job in the rotation. While it will likely be Brito, who has pitched to a 5.20 ERA in eight starts this season, Schmidt hasn't fared much better with a 6.00 ERA in 10 starts.
Having Severino back also means the Yankees will be getting a much-needed veteran presence back on their staff.
Severino is playing on the final year of his contract and must prove he can stay healthy and pitch like the ace that he once was. He will now get his shot with the Yankees come Sunday.
