The Cavs Were Quiet At The NBA Trade Deadline, And That's Alright

The Cleveland Cavaliers didn't need to make a big move at the NBA trade deadline to still contend in the Eastern Conference.

The NBA trade deadline came and went without the Cavaliers making a single move. This may seem pretty shocking considering how active the entire league was and how desperate Cleveland appeared at times to make a move for an upgrade at wing.

But in the end, the Cavs stayed put with the team that they started the season with.

Some fans may feel frustrated by Cleveland's lack of activity considering the obvious holes that are still present on this team. However, it's important to remember that just because they didn't make a move doesn't mean they didn't try.

Looking deeper into it, the Cavs staying quiet at the deadline is alright.

This isn't a "championship or bust" year for the Cavs, as nice as it would be to see them win it all. Rolling with this team until the end of the season and hopefully into a playoff series will give Cleveland's front office a better idea of what moves they need to make in the summer.

For a team that is still gauging what they have on their roster, making an impulsive move doesn't seem like a smart idea. In the past teams will also overpay for players at the deadline because they come off in obvious need of help.

The Cavs don't need to be desperate. At least not right now.

There's also been an uptick in production from players who the Cavs were looking to replace at the deadline. One of them is Isaac Okoro.

Okoro is finally turning into the "three-and-d" player that was expected to come out of training camp in the fall. He knocked down 47.6 percent of his threes in the month of January and has improved that to 60 percent in the month of February.

Shooting threes over 50 percent probably won't be sustainable. But even if Okoro keeps knocking them down at 40 percent he'll have a massive contributor to this team.

Will the time come when the Cavs need to make another move in order to solidify themselves as contenders as they go for a Finals championship? Yes.

But right now wasn't the time and Cleveland is still set up to be a problem in the playoffs.
