Knicks Must Sign or Trade for 'Sniper' This Offseason

The New York Knicks need to enlist in some free agents to help with three-point shooting this offseason.

The New York Knicks are looking for ways to improve their team this summer in free agency and on the trade market, especially considering the fact that the team doesn't have any picks in Thursday's NBA Draft.

New York has an opportunity to be competitive next season, especially after its most successful season in a decade. But in order to take the next step on the Eastern Conference playoff bracket, the Knicks have to make changes, specifically in the three-point shooting department.

Looking at the current roster, there's room for internal growth, but the team needs to match that with some outside help.

"Starting center Mitchell Robinson is never going to become a threat from the outside and Julius Randle has been an extremely inconsistent shooter throughout his career," Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report writes. "Internal improvements from guys like RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickley, Obi Toppin, and others is important, but the Knicks front office needs to find a way to add another sniper or two to the rotation as well."

During the regular season, the Knicks were tied for 19th in three-point shooting with a 35.4 percent success rate. However, that number dipped in the playoffs, to the point where they were dead last among the 16 postseason competitors and was a big reason behind their second-round elimination at the hands of the Miami Heat.

Perhaps the Knicks could trade for a player like Bradley Beal, but that would cost too much of the team's current core that it would jeopardize the overall health of the team.

Among outside free agents the Knicks could look at include Damion Lee (Phoenix Suns), Seth Curry (Brooklyn Nets), and Gary Harris (Orlando Magic).
