Pelicans Sign Free-Agent Center
New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans Pelicans added a center after signing Cody Zeller to a 1-year, $3.1 million deal. After declining options on center-forwards Jaxson Hayes and Willy Hernangomez, the team immediately needed more depth in the frontcourt.
Last season, the ten-year veteran played for the Eastern Conference champions Miami Heat. Zeller appeared in 21 games during Miami's playoff run, averaging 2.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest.
The Portland Trail Blazers waived Zeller during the CJ McCollum trade to the Pelicans in 2022. He and McCollum will reunite as teammates in New Orleans.
Zeller is averaging 8.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game for his career. After his rookie year, he earned All-Rookie Second Team honors. His basketball family includes older brothers Tyler and Luke, who played in the NBA.
