LA Clippers Executive Hired As Wizards New President
After a month long search for the Wizards next President And General Manager, Los Angeles Clippers GM Michael Winger has agreed to become the President of Monumental Basketball overseeing the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, and Wizards G League Affiliate Capital City Go-Go.
What was initially a quiet search, soon started to hit the rumor mill shortly after the NBA Draft Lottery. Winger has his hands full coming into the role with big decisions such as Bradley Beal’s full no trade clause contract and contract extensions for Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma. Not to mention the upcoming NBA Draft where the Wizards currently hold the eighth pick.
However, it will not be Winger's decision entirely as he will be hiring someone else to make the upcoming big Wizards basketball decisions.
Before joining the Clippers as General Manager in 2017, Winger spent seven years in the Oklahoma City Thunder front office. He has been sought after a number of times yet has remained with the Clippers. Winger has also worked in the Cleveland Cavaliers front office under Danny Ferry from 2005 – 2010.
New Orleans Pelicans General Manager Trajan Langdon also interviewed for the Wizards’ head of basketball operations role. Other names mentioned for the role as potential candidates were Milwaukee Bucks Assistant General Manager Milt Newton and Golden State Warriors General Manager Bob Myers.
