Fantasy Football: Week 11 RB Rankings
Kevin Hanson joins SI for the 2019 season. His fantasy rankings have placed him in the Top 20 in each of the past two seasons among all the industry experts tracked by FantasyPros.com, and he has been in the Top 25 in six of the past eight years.
Check out more of Kevin’s rankings: QB, WR, TE, DST, flex and kicker.
RB Start of the Week: Brian Hill, Atlanta Falcons (at CAR)
With Atlanta already placing Ito Smith on Injured Reserve, Brian Hill entered last week’s game as Devonta Freeman’s backup. Thrust into a large workload after Freeman (foot) exited the game, Hill carried the ball 20 times for 61 yards and added a 10-yard touchdown reception.
Hill wasn’t very efficient (3.05 yards per carry) last week, but the Saints have one of the league’s best-run defenses. This week, Hill and the Falcons face a softer Panthers defense that has allowed the fourth-most rushing yards per game (136.7) and a league-worst 5.17 yards per carry.
Owned in just 2% of Yahoo! leagues when he was featured in my Early Week 11 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire, Hill’s ownership has jumped to 44% (as of Wednesday night). With Freeman expected to miss a couple of weeks, Hill is a top-20, plug-and-play starter off the waiver wire this week.
RB Sit of the Week: David Johnson, Arizona Cardinals (at SF)
After missing a couple of games, David Johnson returned to the field in Week 10, but he managed only two rushing yards on five carries and added an eight-yard reception. DJ now has back-to-back games with exactly two rushing yards. Meanwhile, Kenyan Drake had 16 total touches—10 more than Johnson—in Week 10.
The 49ers defense ranks bottom 10 in yards per carry allowed (4.6), but they rank second in the NFL in total defense (251.6 YPG) and scoring defense (14.3). Double-digit underdogs, the Cardinals have a bottom-three implied total this week against the stingy 49ers defense. Given that the Cardinals have a Week 12 bye and a difficult matchup this week, it’s unlikely that this is the week that Johnson returns to workhorse usage.
