Bengals Address Multiple Positions In ESPN's Seven-Round 2023 Mock Draft
CINCINNATI — ESPN's Jordan Reid took a stab at mock drafting every single pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and had some intriguing selections ready for the Bengals.
He started with Ohio State offensive tackle Dawand Jones at No. 28.
"The makeover at offensive tackle for the Bengals continues," Reid wrote. "After they signed Orlando Brown Jr. in free agency to play on the left side, the hole at right tackle remains. La'el Collins battled injuries and was inconsistent during his first season in Cincinnati, and Jonah Williams has requested a trade. That leaves room for 6-8, 374-pound Jones, who is the sixth offensive tackle in this Round 1 projection. The Bengals like blockers with bigger bodies who can wall off the inside of the pocket and create elongated edges for pass-rushers. This fit makes a lot of sense for them."
Jones is the 36th-ranked player on the consensus big board.
Next, Reid slotted Cincinnati with Iowa tight end Sam LaPorta at Pick 60.
"The Bengals have been searching for years for a consistent and reliable tight end," Reid wrote. "Many players have flashed, but year-to-year consistency is something LaPorta brings to the table. Not only could he have an immediate impact as a pass-catcher, but he also could be an extra blocker in the run game. He caught 58 passes for 657 yards for the Hawkeyes last season.
LaPorta is the 60th-ranked player on the consensus big board.
In the third round, Cincinnati selected Missouri edge rusher Isaiah McGuire at Pick 92.
"McGuire is a stout base end," Reid wrote. "At 6-4, 268 pounds, he has a similar stature to prospects the Bengals have drafted in the past, and he would be solid depth paired with Joseph Ossai in the team's second unit of pass-rushers. He had 12 tackles for loss last season."
McGuire is the 123rd-ranked player on the consensus big board.
Cincinnati's fourth-round pick (No. 131) was Iowa cornerback Riley Moss, who is the 125th-ranked player on the consensus big board.
In the fifth round (No. 163), Cincinnati took Syracuse running back Sean Tucker. He is the 105th-ranked player on the consensus big board.
The sixth round (No. 206) saw Cincinnati take West Virginia defensive lineman Dante Stills. He is the 232nd-ranked player on the consensus big board.
The Bengals closed the draft (No. 246) by selecting Utah linebacker Mohaoud Diabate. He is the 204th-ranked player on the consensus big board.
