Brian Callahan Confident in Bengals' Offensive Line With Training Camp Looming: 'It's the Best Group We've Had'

CINCINNATI — The Bengals have high hopes for their offensive line this season.

After signing Orlando Brown Jr. in March and holding onto Jonah Williams in what essentially amounts to a one-year, prove-it deal—the coaching staff is hopeful that they'll be able to protect Joe Burrow and be more dynamic and versatile than they've been in recent seasons.

"I think it's safe to say it's the best group from top to bottom that we've had in our time here," Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said on the Locked on Bengals podcast. "I just feel really good about the direction we're headed, the players we've added and the players that we have."

Brown and Williams are expected to start at left and right tackle, respectively. Second-year guard Cordell Volson could make a leap after playing every game at left guard last season. Ted Karras and Alex Cappa will start at center and right guard.

Those five are a solid group of starters, but throw in Jackson Carman, Cody Ford, veteran tackle La'el Collins, Max Scharping and others and it's clear that the Bengals have rare depth in the trenches that every NFL team covets.

"It's deep, it's talented, it's experienced," Callahan continued. "I've got a ton of confidence in those guys."

It's unclear how the offense could change this season, but more play action and longer developing plays could be on the table, assuming the offensive line can hold up their end of the bargain.
