Charlie Jones on The Kick/Punt Return Game: 'I Feel Like I'm Gonna Take One Back' Every Time
CINCINNATI — Bengals rookie wide receiver Charlie Jones has some entrenched veterans ahead of him on the receiving depth chart, but he should get every chance to be a new return man for Cincinnati.
The former Purdue playmaker returned 11 kickoffs and 64 punts last season, earning a 73.8 grade on punt returns.
"I'm confident back there," Jones said about his return skills. "And that comes from the way I prepare you know, I don't take that lightly. I want to walk out there and you know, be on my own out there and every time I go out there I feel like I'm gonna take one back. So I'm gonna be aggressive but smart back there. I'm not gonna you know, do something dumb trying to try to make the moment too big."
Jones led the NCAA in receptions last season (111) and is ready to show Bengals fans what he's all about. If he returns a punt to the house for the Bengals, he'd be the first to do that since Adam "Pacman" Jones back in 2012.
"I'm a competitive guy. I'm here to work," Jones said about his message to fans. "I'm really excited to be here, and I'm here to help this team win in any way possible."
