Jake Browning Confident if Called on to Play: 'Wouldn't Have Minded Having' Bengals Top Receivers in Preseason
CINCINNATI — Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browing could get the call as Cincinnati's starter on Monday night. He feels prepared to lead the team after taking in so much good experience in the QB room over the past few seasons.
"I think just taking reps in the same offense over and over," Browning said about his preparation. "Seeing someone do it at a high level, being in the room when there's some high-level conversations going on about the scheme and how we're doing this or that, being around great coaches getting to go against our defense. There's been a lot of different things that go into it, two years ago I spent five days up in Seattle thinking I'm getting ready to get into coaching. And so obviously a lot happens between now and then and kind of got me into this situation and I feel pretty good about it."
Browning posted a rough 75.1 passer rating in the preseason, but that was with an entire offense of backups. Playing with weapons like Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase can't hurt his potential production.
"I wouldn't have minded having them in the preseason games," Browning joked. "So if we get them on Monday night, then so be it."
Browning finished the 2023 preseason 32-of-45 passing for 277 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in three games.
