Ja'Marr Chase Stands Firm on Joe Burrow Return Comments: 'I Don't Want Him Rushing Nothing'
CINCINNATI — Ja'Marr Chase clarified his comments to NFL Network over the weekend where the Bengals wide receiver said he doesn't necessarily want Joe Burrow playing Week 1 against the Browns.
It's all about taking the right amount of time and getting Burrow 100% healthy.
"I just want him to be 100% healthy to play," Chase said on Sunday. "I don't want him rushing nothing and I don't want people in his ear telling him to play at a certain time. I just want him to be healthy. And that's not me telling him to play this certain game. That's me saying be healthy when you're back. 100% healthy."
Chase reiterated how he gave himself one extra week last season to get to 100% with his hip injury before coming back for the stretch run to another AFC Championship game.
"He shouldn't see to field during preseason," Chase continued. "We'd be okay as long as he's there for the end of the season. We're worried about the bigger picture, not the small picture here, that's what we are trying to win. So long as he comes in around the season that we need him—then we're gonna be okay."
Burrow has continued to be around the Bengals facility as he works his way back from the calf strain.
