Joe Burrow on Being at Practice Without a New Contract: 'I Need These Days to be my Best'
CINCINNATI — Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow spoke to the media on Wednesday and dove into why he's not sitting out of training camp despite not having a new contract extension worked out completely.
The franchise player is tired of missing out on opportunities to improve.
"I feel in my position I don't want to waste these days that I have to get better," Burrow said. "I've wasted enough days last two years with injuries, appendicitis, and COVID the year before that. I don't want to get out of camp wishing I had seven more days that I could have got better. That's the reason I'm here. You know, maybe business comes first at some point, but I need these days to be my best."
Burrow's missed chunks of the past two offseasons, including most of training camp last season, and still enters this season as a consensus top-five quarterback in the NFL.
"The point I'm at now I'm one of the best in the world," Burrow said. "If I just continue to improve every day I'm gonna help myself a lot more than if I I set these goals for myself that are that are tangible."
Time will tell if he can take that top spot away from Chiefs passer Patrick Mahomes.
