Jordan Battle On Impressive Football Acumen: Combine Interview 'For Showing How Smart I Am'

The safety started for three seasons at Alabama.

CINCINNATI — Rookies filed in for minicamp on Friday as Cincinnati continues its offseason program.

Safety Jordan Battle was part of the brigade and commented on how he aimed to impress in an NFL Combine interview with the Bengals that made waves.

"That's kind of the goal going into every single interview," Battle said. "How can I make these guys like me? How can I make them want to draft me, you know, just showing how smart I am. I kind of like shy away from trying to say that, but I gotta realize that it's a gift to be smart on the field. And just take that all in. I gotta learn quickly, and be a guy who can take that to the field and translate it. A guy who tries to be in my studies a lot. So just doing that and trying to play as early as possible."

The decorated Alabama product started four games as a freshman and then blossomed as a full-time starter during Alabama's 2020 national title run.

He followed that up with consecutive AP All-American nods in 2021 and 2022. Then, a third-round selection from the Bengals

"Obviously if you're under Coach (Nick) Saban, you know it's a complex defense," Battle said about learning playbooks quickly. "So probably just me coming from Bama and playing early, playing as a freshman. And knowing that playbook and learning it early is probably the reason they have that in mind."
