Mike Brown, Duke Tobin Staying Quiet on Joe Burrow's Contract Negotiations: Not 'Giving Blow-by-Blows Here'

Cincinnati is expected to make Burrow the NFL's highest-paid player.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — Bengals owner Mike Brown and director of player personnel duke Tobin spoke at the annual Training Camp Luncheon on Monday offering the latest on Joe Burrow's contract extension.

Brown made it clear Burrow's deal "goes together" with others like wide receiver Tee Higgins and linebacker Logan Wilson. Still, he and the Burrow side are staying buttoned up on how the negotiations are going and "don’t want to do something that makes the big deal (Burrow) impossible or hard."

“I hope to get them all done as soon as possible," Brown told the media. "But hope is a weasely word. ... I’m not shocked at where this thing is. They want to get what they can get. These people are highly competent.”

Burrow is expected to become the highest-paid player in the NFL with his new deal. Brown discussed how his father and team founder, Paul Brown, would enjoy the never-say-die mantra that follows Burrow.

“He would like Joe Burrow," Brown said. "His intelligence. Joe sees things on the football field, he can make up for the faults of others.”

Duke Tobin wasn't steadfast in thinking Burrow's deal would need to come first, but that's about the only nugget of info he offered.

"I'm not going to provide any updates," Tobin said. "Maybe there'll be people through here that will, but I don't have any updates on any contract negotiations with any of our guys, unfortunately, you know we'd like to get guys resigned. We want them here long term, I think they know that we'll see what happens as we go, but that's the only update I have, won't be giving blow-by-blows here."
