Report: 'Does Not Sound Like Anything is Imminent' With Joe Burrow's Contact Extension
CINCINNATI — A summer of waiting could be in store for the Bengals and Joe Burrow.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported this week that "it sounds like the wait will continue" with Burrow's contract extension.
"You know history has shown us that a lot of these quarterback situations, really big contracts in general, either get done right around the start of training camp or potentially delay a player's participation," Rapoport said. "We've seen numerous hold-ins over the last couple of years.
"A player shows up, doesn't get fined, but not going to take the field and put himself at risk until he is basically fully handled and taken care of with security for the long term future. I would surely expect that for Joe Burrow though the timing will see his agent Brian Ayrult, who has repped several other big time players, including Joey Bosa. Had Bosa basically do a deal right before the Chargers were set to report, perhaps that is the case here, either way, Burrow is going to be highly, highly paid, perhaps even the highest paid quarterback in football. We'll see where this plays out, but I am with Mike (Garafolo) on this one. Does not sound like anything is imminent."
Burrow is in line to make upwards of $52 million on a new deal if he resets the quarterback market.
The Bengals brass has made it clear they want to get a deal done throughout this offseason.
