Halftime Observations: Charlie Jones Puts Bengals on the Board, Ravens Lead 13-10

CINCINNATI — The Bengals trail the Ravens 13-10 at halftime.

Cincinnati is hoping to improve to 1-1 on the season. They've never led and started slow, but they're within striking distance.

Here are our halftime observations:

Big Play Rookie

Rookie wide receiver Charlie Jones gave the Bengals a spark in the second quarter when he returned a punt 81-yards for a touchdown to tie the game 7-7.

It was the Bengals' first touchdown of the season and their first punt return for a score since Adam "Pacman" Jones did it on Sept. 16, 2012 against the Browns.

Slow Start

The Bengals deferred after winning the coin toss, which gave the Ravens an opportunity to strike early.

Lamar Jackson completed all five of his pass attempts, leading the Ravens on a 13-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. Gus Edwards scored from one-yard out to give the Ravens the lead.

The Bengals responded by going three-and-out. Joe Burrow appeared to extend the drive by finding Irv Smith Jr. deep down the near sideline. Smith made the catch, but only got one foot in bounds.

The Bengals went three-and-out on their second possession, despite getting the ball at midfield following Justin Tucker's missed field goal from 59-yards out.

Cincinnati finished the first quarter with just 14 yards and didn't pick up a first down.

Third Possession

The Bengals' offense got into a rhythm on their third possession, driving 66 yards on 12 plays. They failed to score a touchdown, but Evan McPherson kicked a 27-yard field goal to tie the game 10-10.

McPherson is 2-for-3 on field goal attempts this season and 1-for-1 on extra points.

The Bengals Will Win If...

They find a way to get going on offense. Burrow is 8-of-11 for just 35 yards. His longest pass is only 11 yards.

They get the ball to start the second half. Burrow and the rest of this offense has to get it figured out if they're going to win.

On defense, they're play OK, but they need to find a way to get off the field sooner. The Ravens are great at extending drives and winning the time of possession, even if they've only scored one touchdown.
