CINCINNATI — It's official. Joe Burrow has his long-term deal and the Bengals have their star quarterback.

Burrow signed a five-year, $275 million extension on Saturday that makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history.

“My father always said that in the NFL, the quarterback is like the key to your car,” Bengals President Mike Brown said in a statement. “You can have a great car, but you need a key to get the car going and to operate it at a high level. We feel that we have a good one in Joe."

Burrow is under contract for the next seven seasons. The deal became official just hours before the Bengals travel to Cleveland to play the Browns for the season opener.
