DJ Reader Signing Two-Year Contract With Detroit Lions
CINCINNATI — The Bengals are losing DJ Reader to the Lions in free agency as the team's best defensive tackle this decade agreed to a two-year deal with Detroit.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported the news and Ian Rapoport notes it's a two-year deal worth up to $27.25 million with "over" $9 million guaranteed.
The Lions' doctors gave the green light on his health (torn quad to end 2023 season) and it was enough to seal the deal.
Cincinnati is still in search of a true nose tackle as Reader was the only reliable option at that spot since he signed with the team in 2020. Teair Tart is in town today as the Bengals look for other defensive tackle help. Tart, oddly enough, just played for the Texans, same as Reader before starting a four-year stint in Cincinnati.
Reader helped build the foundation of the great team culture and now takes his elite run-stuffing talents up north.
