Key Details Emerge About Joe Mixon's New Contract With Bengals

The 26-year-old agreed to the new deal last week.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — Bengals running back Joe Mixon agreed to restructure his contract with the team last week, ensuring that he would spend the 2023 season in Cincinnati.

The veteran is entering his seventh NFL season after he was the 48th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Bengals essentially ripped up Mixon's old contract and gave him a two-year, $11.5 million contract with over $4 million guaranteed according to Spotrac.

Mixon has a $3 million roster bonus coming his way next March. Cincinnati would clear $5.75 million in cap room if they opted not to keep the veteran.

Combine that with the fact that he can make over $2 million in incentives this season and Mixon has plenty of motivation to show the Bengals and the rest of the NFL that he can still be a game changing playing.

His cap hit for the 2024 season would be $8.5 million.

Mixon talled 814 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 3.9 yards-per-carry last season. He also had 60 catches for 441 yards and two scores.

Re-working his contract kept him in Cincinnati for 2023, but he'll have to be efficient and more of a difference maker if he's going to earn the final year of his contract with the Bengals.
