Key Stat Shows How Valuable Trent Brown Could Be to Joe Burrow and the Bengals' Offense
CINCINNATI — The Bengals signed Trent Brown to a one-year contract on Tuesday afternoon.
Brown is at his best when asked to pass block, which makes him a perfect fit in Cincinnati. The Bengals want to throw the ball all over the field and Brown thrived in 1-on-1 pass blocking situations. He allowed pressure on just 7.1% of his 1-on-1 pass blocking snaps last season, which was the second-lowest rate among left tackles.
Brown is expected to start at right tackle, but he cross-trains at both spots and is ready for the challenge. He's played on both sides throughout his NFL career.
"Coming in as a rookie, I started out a bit as the swing tackle and then, over time, won the job at the right tackle spot," Brown said. "When I got traded in 2018, I played left tackle full-time for the first time. I had only had probably like three starts at left tackle with the Niners over the course of those three years. But it's just the comfortability and over time understanding ... I cross-train that way in the offseason so that I can be able to plug-and-play whenever the situation comes where I'm needed wherever at either tackle position."
