Postgame Observations: Jake Browning Leads Bengals Past Jaguars 34-31 on Monday Night Football

Cincinnati is 6-6 on the season following the win.

JACKSONVILLE — Jake Browning put on a show in his primetime debut and he led the Bengals to a 34-31 win over the Jaguars on Monday Night Football.

Browning led Cincinnati downfield in overtime and Evan McPherson kicked a 48-yard field goal to snap their 3-game losing streak.

The Bengals improve to 6-6 on the season. Here are our postgame observations:

Browning Balls Out

Browning was outstanding against the Jaguars. He completed 31-of-36 passes for 346 yards and one touchdown. He also scored on a quarterback sneak and ran for 22 yards.

Browning was composed in the pocket and made multiple downfield throws, including a 76-yard touchdown to Ja'Marr Chase.

This was a major step in the right direction for the entire offense. That starts with Zac Taylor and Brian Callahan, but obviously ends with Browning producing at an elite level on Monday night.

Key Injury

Jaguars star quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a right ankle injury with 5:25 left in the game. Jacksonville was in scoring range when Lawrence left the game.

They proceeded to miss what would've been the go-ahead field goal.

Clutch Kick

McPherson made a 54-yard field goal with 2:31 left to give Cincinnati a 31-28 lead in regulation. The Jaguars answered with a field goal of their own to tie the game and force overtime, but Money Mac came up big late in regulation.

Run Game

The Bengals got their rushing attack going on Monday, with rookie Chase Brown plenty of work on offense. Brown finished with eight carries for 61 yards.

Joe Mixon ran for 68 yards and two touchdowns. He also had four receptions for 49 yards.

Questionable Play Call, Worse Decision

The Bengals and Jaguars were tied at 21 when Taylor called a double pass on 1st-and-10 from the 25-yard line. Tyler Boyd's pass was intercepted by Josh Allen. The Jaguars scored four plays later to take a 28-21 lead.

It was a questionable play call at best with the way the offense was moving the ball. It was a worse decision by Boyd.

Defensive Struggles

The Bengals' defense struggled to stop the Jaguars' offense all game long. Jacksonville scored touchdowns on two of their first three possessions of the game. They also scored on two of their first three possessions of the second half.

Lawrence was unstoppable before his injury. He led the Jaguars up and down the field, accounting for three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing).

CJ Beathard took over for Lawrence and led Jacksonville downfield for the game-tying field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Play of the Game

Browning found Chase for a 76-yard touchdown on the Bengals' first possession of the third quarter to give Cincinnati a 21-14 lead.

Chase finished the game with 11 receptions for 149 yards and one touchdown. He had multiple catches in overtime to help solidify the win.
