Report: Bengals Trading Joe Mixon to Texans
CINCINNATI — The Bengals aren't releasing Joe Mixon after all. Instead, they're trading him to the Texans according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Cincinnati agreed to terms with Zack Moss on Monday night, which allowed them to feel comfortable parting ways with Mixon before paying his $3 million roster bonus on March 17.
The Texans lost Devin Singletary in free agency. Rather than waiting for Mixon to hit the open market, they preferred to trade for the former Pro Bowler.
Mixon, 27, spent the first seven years of his career in Cincinnati. He ran for 6,412 yards and 49 touchdowns in 97 regular season games.
Regardless of compensation, the Bengals did Mixon a solid by sending him to a contending team. It also allows him to keep his current contract (one-year, $5.75 million) in Houston.
Trade compensation is unclear, but it's reasonable to think it would be a late round draft pick.
