Report: Cincinnati Bengals Hoping to Sign Tee Higgins to Long-Term Extension

The Bengals are expected to place the franchise tag on Higgins.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals are expected to use the franchise tag on Tee Higgins, but that doesn't mean they're ruling out a long-term extension.

NFL insider Tony Pauline is reporting that Cincinnati is hoping to sign the 25-year-old wide-out this offseason.

"Sources close to the Bengals tell me the team is trying to negotiate a contract extension with Higgins to lock him up for the next several years," Pauline wrote. "If the team cannot agree to terms with the wideout by March 5, they’ll tag him but continue to negotiate with the hopes of signing him long term before the start of the season.

"Any way you cut it, the Bengals hope Higgins’ long-term future resides in Cincinnati."

Higgins would make $21.8 million on the franchise tag. The team has until March 5 to use the tag on him. If they do, it'll give them more time to work on a long-term extension.

Higgins has 257 career catches for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns in four seasons with the Bengals. Cincinnati took him with the 33rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
