Report: Cincinnati Could Beef Up Pressure Unit With Free Agent Edge Rusher Obo Okoronkwo
CINCINNATI — Cincinnati had one of the lowest sack totals from any front seven in the NFL last year and it's looking to change those numbers.
ESPN's Dan Graziano reports the team is interested in a free-agent edge rusher.
"The Bengals are among the teams looking for edge rush help in free agency and could be one of the teams interested in Obo Okoronkwo if the Texans aren't able to get him signed before the market opens, Graziano wrote."
The 27-year-old edge rusher posted 44 tackles, 5 sacks (t-74th), and 1 forced fumble in the 2022 season.
He was on the Rams Super Bowl team and played a full season last year after struggling with injuries in Los Angeles (44% 2022 snap rate, a career-high). His pass-rush win rate ranked fourth among all edge rushers (31%).
Cincinnati posted the fourth-fewest sacks in the NFL and was a middle-of-the-pack pressure team.
Okoronkwo would boost that although he could get priced out of the Bengals range (Spotrac does not have a salary projection for him).
