Report: Vikings Releasing Star Running Back Dalvin Cook, as Joe Mixon's Future Looks More Clear

Cook was the 41st pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — The Vikings plan to release running back Dalvin Cook according to multiple reports, including Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

Cook, 27, was in the same class as Joe Mixon (2017). The Vikings star is a four-time Pro Bowler, but the team opted to move on to save $9 million in cap space.

There's been plenty of speculation this offseason about the possibility of the Bengals moving on from Mixon for similar reasons, but the veteran is confident he's going to remain in Cincinnati.

“You hear a lot of noise but when you don’t pay attention and you don’t hear it none of that effects you,” Mixon told Elise Jesse in an exclusive interview with All Bengals. “What matters most is Mike Brown. He always comes up to me at practice and he’s always happy to see me and that is the best feeling, it doesn’t get better than that.”

Cook will instantly become the top running back available in free agency. He joins a group that includes Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette and Kareem Hunt.
