Bills WR James Cook? WATCH: RB Burns Micah Hyde for Deep TD
As training camp continues, maybe James Cook is showing the Buffalo Bills why they don't need to make a run at signing his Pro Bowl brother, Dalvin.
Set to be the starter this season in Buffalo barring a blockbuster, last-minute signing, Cook enters his second year with blooming potential on an already elite Bills offense. He showed why this is the case on Sunday during the team's camp practice, as he burned All-Pro safety Micah Hyde down the field on what was likely a wheel route before catching up to a nicely-placed pass from Josh Allen in the end zone for the touchdown.
Take a look:
If Cook can make plays like this during his second season, the Bills will have a tough choice to make in regards to taking a committee approach at running back.
It's still anyone's guess exactly how the Bills will handle the backfield after signing veteran running backs Damien Harris and Latavius Murray this offseason, but Cook has already made his prediction.
"Obviously RB1," Cook said on "The Rich Eisen Show" when asked what he thinks his role will be next season.
It's possible that the coaching staff has already told him what to expect, though there's been no "obvious" indication this offseason that he's the guaranteed starter. Maybe his statement is more of a personal vote of confidence than anything.
But regardless of what his role will entail, he's ready to "change the game" for a Super Bowl-hungry Bills team.
“Just try come in and do what I do," Cook said. "Change the game with my versatility,” Cook said. "Catching the ball out of the backfield. Pass blocking. Just try to do what I can do to help the team win games and ultimately win the Super Bowl."
