Bills' Sean McDermott Hangs Lombardi Banner As Motivation: 'A Daily Reminder'

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott has hung a banner featuring the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the team's facility to remind the team of its ultimate goal

The Buffalo Bills have been chasing a Super Bowl championship for nearly their entire existence, yet it has constantly eluded them.

The past few years have been especially frustrating in this regard, as despite the Bills having some of their best regular-season teams ever, they've suffered heartbreaking playoff defeats each season. Buffalo is looking to finally get over the playoff hump this year, although that task is getting more and more difficult.

Everyone in the Bills organization knows how important the upcoming season is, but it doesn't hurt to add some extra motivation. This summer, coach Sean McDermott ordered some new decorations for the team's indoor practice facility, including a banner with the Vince Lombardi Trophy front and center. For McDermott, it serves to remind the team about what they're working towards every single day.

“It’s just a daily reminder of what we’re here to do and what we’re trying to accomplish,” McDermott told the Boston Globe. “It’s just really a standard for us, what we’re trying to accomplish every year. And more than anything internally, it’s to keep us focused on that through the course of the season, when that can get clouded with the journey.”

There's little question that the Bills have enough talent to win it all. With an offense led by quarterback Josh Allen and receiver Stefon Diggs, as well as a defense featuring several Pro Bowlers, Buffalo still has one of the the NFL's top all-around rosters. It's just a matter of putting all the pieces together, but the Bills know from experience how hard that can be.

“My main focus and my only focus is winning Super Bowls,” Diggs told the Boston Globe. “Regarding last year, obviously, the way we lost was just terrible in any regard. You don’t want to lose any game. But we’ve lost for a couple of years at this point. We’ve been trying to get over the hump. And obviously it’s cause for a lot of frustration.”

The Bills know that this season is make-or-break, and with the Lombardi Trophy hanging over both figuratively and literally before every practice, they won't forget their goal any time soon.
