Bills LB Von Miller Back By Week 1 vs. Jets, Aaron Rodgers?
What's the status of Buffalo Bills edge rusher Von Miller as mandatory minicamp is right around the corner?
The 34-year-old is still rehabbing from the ACL injury he suffered in the Bills' Thanksgiving win over the Detroit Lions last season. The injury came in the first season of his massive six-year, $120 million contract that was signed that prior offseason.
Obviously, after the Bills made the decision to give a player of Miller's caliber that big of a deal this late into his career, it is only natural for fans to be concerned about his rehabbing process.
Miller guaranteed to the media at the start of OTAs that he would be back on the field by Week 6 at the latest. Yet, he did say if the team needed him to be available for Week 1, he'd work towards that goal. That estimated timeline of a return has since been updated by Miller himself in an interview with NBC's 9 News.
“You know I love guarantees,’’ Miller said. “In 2013, I had (ACL) surgery in January and I played at the beginning of August in the preseason. So that put me around seven months, eight months. I know exactly where I’m supposed to be at two months, four months, six months and in the position where I’m at now, I feel great, I feel comfortable. I feel like I’ll be ready to go at the start of the season.”
Miller's update is certainly a welcomed one for the Bills Mafia after finding out that they will face Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets in Week 1. Harassing Rodgers will be a big part of the game plan for the Bills, which would make Miller's availability a priority.
But, with the recent addition of former Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Leonard Floyd, maybe the Bills already have an insurance policy in place, just in case Miller isn't ready in time.
