Report: Ex-Broncos K Brandon McManus Signs With Jaguars
Brandon McManus ended up being unemployed for less than two full days. On Thursday, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed the veteran kicker to a one-year deal, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"Former Broncos’ kicker Brandon McManus is signing a one-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, per source. McManus was released Tuesday and found work less than 48 hours later," Schefter tweeted.
The Broncos released McManus on Tuesday on the doorstep of organized team activities beginning. McManus had been with the club since 2014 and was the last member of the Super Bowl 50 World Champion squad.
However, releasing him saved the Broncos $3.75 million on the salary cap. What else may have motivated McManus' release?
It's hard to say, but for a kicker, he was a bit uppity. Perhaps it was due to being the Broncos' NFLPA rep, but he was an outspoken player at a position that is seen, not heard.
McManus, many times during his career, has locked horns with past Broncos head coaches over different policies and/or in-game decisions, famously throwing his helmet on the sideline when Vic Fangio denied him a ridiculous 70-yard kick attempt.
Perhaps — and this is me speculating — new head coach Sean Payton didn't want to deal with a mouthy kicker, especially an expensive one. That problem is now Jacksonville's. Meanwhile, the Broncos worked out three kickers on Wednesday.
No replacement has been announced yet. Stay tuned.
