Voice of the Browns Jim Donovan Announces he is Battling Cancer Again

Jim Donovan is virtually loved amongst Cleveland Browns fans and they’ll be with him once again through this battle.
In this story:

WKYC sports anchor and the voice of the Cleveland Browns, Jim Donovan, announced he is battling leukemia once again. Donovan was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) in 2000, it was a long battle that ultimately resulted in a bone-marrow transplant in the summer of 2011.

In 1999 Donovan became the “Voice of the Cleveland Browns” and this coming season will be his 25th on the air. He’s seen many head coaches and quarterbacks come through in that time, the voice has never changed.

“I have always had you in my thoughts. And I adore being with you as we go through the ups and sometimes the downs of Cleveland sports,” said Donovan. “So you are in my thoughts and you are a goal for me to be back with you, here at Channel 3 and down at the stadium calling the Browns up in that radio booth. And I'll be there when I can or as much as I can. Right now, duty calls. And the duty is I have to get better. I think everything right now is pointing in a positive way."

Donovan says the plan is to be on the call as much as he can and will only miss when he has to. Sometimes it’ll be a day and sometimes it’ll be a few days.

“Our thoughts and the thoughts of the entire organization are with Jim and his family right now in this difficult time. There is no better representative of the Cleveland Browns. He is as tough as they come and proved as much in his previous battle. We're all behind Jim and will do everything we can to support him. We look forward to him winning this fight, being around the team, and continuing to call our games during the season,” said a statement from Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam.

Donovan will once again have an entirety of a fan base behind him as he goes through this courageous battle. With the energy and uplifting that Donovan brings, there’s no doubt he will make it out on the other end once again.
