Colts Sign Former Browns Draft Pick
A former Cleveland Browns defensive end has found himself a new home in the NFL. DE Genard Avery is signing with the Indianapolis Colts on a one year deal, per a release from the Colts. Avery was a fifth-round pick of the Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Avery started off his career nicely in Cleveland by recording 4.5 sacks as a rookie where he made just five starts. He was a pick of former Browns GM John Dorsey. Avery was ebentuallt traded in his second year with the Browns to the Philadelphia Eagles after he played in just two games for Cleveland in 2019.
In the four seasons played since the nice rookie year he had, Avery has totaled just four sacks in 47 games since then. In 2022, Avery spent nine games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had one sack and five tackles.
The 6-foot OLB/DE is still 250 pounds and 28 years old. Perhaps there is some juice still there and he can have an opportunity to showcase that with the Colts who may not do a ton of winning in 2023.
Avery played his college ball at Memphis where he was named All-Conference twice on the defensive side of the ball.
