Cardinals Speak on Joshua Dobbs Trade

The Arizona Cardinals bid Joshua Dobbs farewell today, but not without some parting words.

ARIZONA -- And just like that, Joshua Dobbs is no longer with the Arizona Cardinals.

Dobbs was acquired ahead of the regular season from the Cleveland Browns and started all eight games in the desert before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings earlier today.

Whether Kyler Murray returns this week or rookie Clayton Tune gets the nod remains to be seen, but Dobbs is no longer on the roster just two days removed from head coach Jonathan Gannon saying he would start in Week 9, and one day after he was benched.

Such is life as a quarterback in the NFL, though Gannon did give Dobbs a nice parting message when meeting with reporters today:

"Just wanted to kick this off, I'm sure you guys saw the news. Came together over the last however many days, but just want to thank Josh for his contributions," said Gannon. Normally coordinators only talk on Tuesdays, but Gannon hit the podium before his assistants spoke.

"Came in, battled, he's an ultimate pro. What he did for us and our team, can't thank him enough. Josh is excited to go to Minnesota and go play. We're excited for him. Basically now how it fits to our team, you guys kinda know the plan. We're sorting through getting another guy in here because I like to have three [quarterbacks]. That'll come over the next couple of days."

Dobbs himself sent out a tweet following the trade:

Murray has yet to be elevated to the active roster but must do so by Nov. 8 as his 21 day practice window comes to an end. Murray practiced fully on all three days last week but did not play vs Baltimore.
