Budda Baker Gives Encouraging Update for Cardinals Fans
Let's face it: Arizona Cardinals fans have had a rough offseason.
We can go through the laundry list of things the Cardinals have (or haven't) done to position themselves for a rebuild, which will unfortunately result in a very likely ugly 2023 season - it's part of the process.
Yet things seemingly went from bad to worse when it was revealed that Budda Baker had requested a trade from the organization. Baker, 27-years-old, wants to be the highest-paid safety in the league and has just two years left on his deal with no guaranteed money.
The Cardinals have yet to oblige, as Baker reportedly made his demands clear back in February. Thus, it's been a standstill between the two sides. There's been some trade speculation, but nothing compared to what followed DeAndre Hopkins before his release yesterday.
Losing Baker would be another punch to the gut of Cardinals fans, and though his future may still be up in the air, fans don't have to worry about him holding out.
Baker met with 12 News' Cameron Cox for an exclusive interview, and the All-Pro safety said he'll be ready when the time comes.
“Oh yeah, of course I’ll be there when it’s time to be there,” Baker said. “When it’s time to be there, I’ll be there smiling and [be] the same regular guy that I am. Just excited to see those guys."
Mandatory Minicamp will begin on June 13 with training camp set for late July.
Baker also mentioned that he's just trying to let things play out like they should.
“For me personally, I’m just letting the business aspect handle the business aspect, letting my agent handle all that type of stuff. Just continuing to have tunnel vision on my work ethic, being the best person I can be outside of football and just enjoying life," Baker said.
"Enjoying this offseason, enjoying working hard each and every day, and just excited to go back and play football again.”
Finally, some positive news for Cardinals fans.
