Report: Vance Joseph, Brian Callahan Out of Running for Cardinals HC Job
The Arizona Cardinals currently have three second interviews scheduled for their head coach vacancy, as Lou Anarumo, Brian Flores and Mike Kafka all made the cut after the first round of meeting with the team. All three will interview with the team this week.
The Cardinals will move forward in their search without some key names that hoped to make it past the first interview, as Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports that Vance Joseph and Brian Callahan have both been informed they are no longer in the running for the open position.
The Cardinals are just one of two teams that have yet to fill their head coach vacancy, as only the Indianapolis Colts accompany them.
Thus far, Carolina (Frank Reich), Denver (Sean Payton) and Houston (DeMeco Ryans) have landed on their desired candidates.
Many believed Joseph was a frontrunner for the job at the beginning of Arizona's search thanks to their familiarity with him as defensive coordinator. Joseph was one of the few coaches with previous experience leading a team and is well respected by his players.
Callahan has helped the Cincinnati Bengals offense reach new heights with Joe Burrow at the helm, making back-to-back AFC Championship game appearances with one trip to the Super Bowl under his belt as well.
Arizona also may look to interview Philadelphia Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon, but they must wait until after the Super Bowl to speak with him.
It's been a long process, but the Cardinals are slowly funneling through candidates until they land on a winner.
