Grounded! Cowboys' Jerry Jones Reacts To Brandin Cooks Flying

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones laughingly expressed his displeasure over receiver Brandin Cooks flying teammates in a plane over the weekend

The Dallas Cowboys love receiver Brandin Cooks' ability to fly on the field, but off of it, not so much.

Earlier this week, the speedy receiver made headlines for flying a plane over Lumen Field before the Cowboys' preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. Cooks, a registered pilot, also shared the fun with his teammates, inviting linebacker Micah Parsons and cornerback Stephon Gilmore as his passengers.

It seemed like a fun and unique team-bonding outing, but not for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Reacting to the news, Jones - while grinning - did not mince words in stating his disapproval.

“One thing I want to do is chastise Cooks for getting in that airplane with the best part of the team and flying up there with them, looking around Seattle,” Jones said. “Boy, I’m glad I didn’t know that was going on. But I would have to tell him part-time pilots, in my mind, are not the way to go.”

Even though he had a co-pilot on board with him, Cooks completely understands Jones' caution. Cooks said he hasn't spoken to Jones since his flight made the news, but assured that he wouldn't be taking off again any time soon.

“That’s all done with,” Cooks said. “We had fun. I’m thankful that my guys trusted me to get up there. But now it’s (time to) focus on football. It was preseason. I would never do something like that during the regular season.”

Cooks is entering his first season with the Cowboys after coming over from the Houston Texans in an offseason trade. With six 1,000-yard seasons in his nine-year career, the Cowboys have high expectations for Cooks to step in as their new No. 2 receiver. Just maybe not high enough for him to need a plane.
