NFL Top 10 WR List: Cowboys CeeDee Lamb Makes The Cut?
CeeDee Lamb took a minute to take hold of the Dallas Cowboys' No. 1 receiver tag last season, but once he got his feet underneath him, the former Oklahoma Sooner in 2022 had a career-best season.
Being the only consistent target for quarterback Dak Prescott, Lamb showed why he was so highly-touted coming out of the 2020 NFL Draft - Dallas selected him at No. 17 overall but had him rated as the third-best player in the class - he hit career highs in yards, receptions, yards per game, and touchdowns as he stamped his authority on the NFL.
But was his career-best season enough to propel him into the NFL's top 10 receivers list? Former No. 88 Dez Bryant insists he's a top-five guy - "Easy!'' said Dez. For CBS Sports.com's Jordan Dajani, it is as Lamb was listed at No. 8.
"Lamb is another one of these third-year wideouts that continue to get better," Dajani wrote. "He set career numbers across the board in 2022 with 107 catches (tied for No. 5 in the NFL) for 1,359 yards (No. 6 in the NFL) and nine touchdowns (tied for No. 6 in the NFL). Lamb accounted for 30 percent of the Cowboys' receptions, which was the second-highest rate in the NFL. With that mark, he became the first Cowboy to record 30 percent of Dallas' catches in a single season since Michael Irvin did so in 1995.
"The fact that this slot weapon just turned 24 is frightening."
Ranking inside the top 10 receivers is due reward for Lamb, who had his breakout season last year. In this list, he was ranked ahead of Jaylen Waddle (No. 10) and Deebo Samuel (No. 9).
The receivers listed ahead of Lamb are the cream of the crop in the NFL, with A.J. Brown (No. 7), Cooper Kupp (No. 6), Stefon Diggs (No. 5), Ja'Marr Chase (No. 4), Davante Adams (No. 3), Tyreek Hill (No. 2) and Justin Jefferson topping the list.
CBS Sports' criteria for the list were skill, recent production, and the player's projected production for next season. One could argue that based on recent production, Lamb (1,359 yards, nine TDs) had a better season than Kupp (812 yards, nine TDs) and Chase (1,046 yards, nine TDs).
But for Lamb to rank in the top 10 list is still quite the achievement, considering Cooper Rush was his quarterback for five games last season.
Now, with Dak fully past his thumb injury, the addition of Brandin Cooks, and a fully healthy Michael Gallup, there is nothing to suggest that Lamb can't better his stats from last season.
And if he does, then No. 88 might find himself higher on this list next offseason.
