Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown Making Statement for Offensive Player of the Year
DeVonta Smith and Julio Jones both had crucial late-game touchdown receptions for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, but it was A.J. Brown who once again looked the part of one of the league's very best receivers in a 38-31 Week 8 win over the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field.
Brown had eight catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-31 at FedExField, with his second-quarter touchdown reception (watch above) from quarterback Jalen Hurts one of the better catches that the NFL has seen this season.
In Week 8, Brown became the first player in NFL history to record six consecutive games with at least 125 receiving yards, breaking a tie with Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson.
With all this dominance, Brown has undoubtedly entered himself near the top of the NFC Offensive Player of the Year conversation.
It was the second time this season that Brown has feasted against the Commanders secondary, as he had nine catches for 175 yards and two touchdowns in a 34-31 overtime win for the Eagles over Washington in Week 4. It's funny, after having just six catches for 92 yards in two games against the Commanders last season, Brown has posted 17 receptions for 305 yards and four touchdowns in two games against the NFC East rivals this campaign.
From a bigger-picture sense, Sunday was a continuation of what's been a special season for Brown. In a 17-game slate, the Eagles aren't even halfway through their 2023 season, at 7-1. And yet, Brown now has 60 catches for 939 receiving yards this year.
Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins has 61 receptions for 1,014 receiving yards after a win over the New England Patriots Sunday, putting him in the driver's seat to win Offensive Player of the Year. But if Hill slips up or deals with an injury at some point down the stretch, Brown may very well find himself in position to take home the honor given how dominant he's been in his second year with the Eagles.
