Fabs's Start-Sit Fantasy Report for Jets' Season Opener

SI analyst suggests leaving two Gang Green players on the bench in Week 1
In this story:

The Kansas City Chiefs' Thursday Night Football loss sans All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce was only the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Fantasy football team managers have no shortage of decisions to make over the next couple of days and they're bound to see a curveball or two between now and kickoff. There are 15 games remaining on the NFL Week 1 schedule with the New York Jets slated to close it out on Monday Night Football against the Buffalo Bills.

For the benefit of fantasy players invested in Gang Green, I have combed through SI Fantasy guru Michael Fabiano's weekly league-wide rankings and "Start 'Em/Sit 'Em" reports.

Fabs did not feature any Jets' offensive playmakers in the "Start 'Em" category for the Week 1 matchup against Buffalo, but he did rank second-year pro Garrett Wilson as WR10 ahead of the lid-lifter.

Wilson is the highest-ranked Jet on the weekly positional rankings list. Aaron Rodgers stands at No. 20 amongst quarterback options. With an uncertainty surrounding the work share, Green & White running backs Breece Hall and Dalvin Cook sit at RB30 and RB34, respectively. Tight end Tyler Conklin ranks as the No. 17 fantasy option at his position.

Two Jets landed in Fabiano's "Sit 'Em" classification. The SI Fantasy analyst projects sub-par fantasy scoring from Rodgers and Cook in Week 1. The Bills' defense should present a stiff challenge for the two former NFC North stars during their Gang Green debut. Buffalo held opponents to 17.9 points per game in 2022, finish second overall in scoring defense behind the San Francisco 49ers.

Sit ’Em

Aaron Rodgers vs. Bills: Rodgers’s first game as a member of the Jets should be an exciting one, but the matchup makes him a fade for me. The Bills were tough on quarterbacks last season, allowing the seventh-fewest points per pass attempt. What’s more, Fantasy Points Data shows the Bills allowed 25% fewer points to quarterbacks based on schedule adjusted points.

Dalvin Cook vs. Bills:
Cook will be splitting the work with Breece Hall, and both players are coming off separate injuries that kept them out of action in the preseason. If that weren’t enough to be wary of Cook, also keep in mind the Bills allowed -8.2% to runners based on adjusted schedule data. At best, Hall and Cook are risk-reward RB2 or flex starters in this AFC East battle.
