Good News on Jets' Fantasy Darling Garrett Wilson
Fantasy draft season is on the horizon and Garrett Wilson investors can breathe easy.
The New York Jets' WR1, who projects as a Top 10 fantasy pass-catcher for the 2023 season, had been strengthening his rapport with quarterback Aaron Rodgers before encountering a minor setback last week.
Wilson left practice on Thursday, July 27 after injuring his ankle while going for a contested ball down the left sideline. The apparent ankle inversion was never viewed as a serious injury, but Wilson has been a non-participant the past few days as a precaution.
"He's dealing with a low ankle, so we're just being cautious with him," said head coach Robert Saleh after Sunday's practice. "Give him a couple days to recover.'
On Tuesday, Saleh delivered a positive update on the reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
"He had a really good workout today, looked awesome," said the third-year head coach. "Fully anticipating him back Saturday."
The 23-year-old Wilson obviously won't participate in Thursday night's Hall of Fame Game against the Cleveland Browns, but his time on the sideline should come to an end this weekend.
Wilson, the No. 10 overall choice in the 2022 NFL Draft, gained 1,103 yards on 83 receptions as a rookie despite Gang Green's in-season quarterback carousel.
He pulled in only 56.5 percent of targets, but that number will likely increase with Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, throwing the passes. There could also be opportunities to possibly double, if not triple, the four touchdowns Wilson scored in 2022.
Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano recently tabbed Wilson as his "darkhorse pick" to win the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.
As Dr. David Chao (@ProFootballDoc) said during his injury update on Wilson last week, "This will not leak into the regular season, draft away!"
