New York Jets to Host Buffalo Bills in Monday Night Football Season Opener

Aaron Rodgers' first game as a Jet will be against Josh Allen in a national TV window

The New York Jets will kick off their 2023 regular season schedule against an AFC East division rival on Monday Night Football.

On Thursday morning, the League announced a Week 1 battle between Gang Green and the Buffalo Bills set for ESPN's MNF stage at MetLife Stadium on September 11.

A source had told Jets Country to expect a Monday Night Football season opener with the Green & White facing the New York Giants, but that tentative schedule arrangement was reportedly adjusted at the 11th hour. The Jets-Giants game was apparently moved to Week 8 (Oct. 29), but confirmation is pending.

The Jets-Bills season-opening affair makes for a highly-appealing matchup on national television, especially considering the teams' starting quarterbacks. Buffalo's Josh Allen has been a top-five MVP candidate each of the past three seasons while Aaron Rodgers brings a Hall-of-Fame resume to Gang Green.

Robert Saleh's Jets were only one of three teams to beat the Buffalo Bills during the 2022 NFL regular season and they did it with Zach Wilson at quarterback. New York posted a 20-17 victory over Buffalo at home in Week 9. The Bills took the grudge match by a 20-12 margin in Week 14.

In the Week 9 win, Jets' pass rusher Bryce Huff derailed the Bills' final offensive possession with a strip sack of Allen, injuring the quarterback's UCL in the process.

Around The NFL writer Nick Shook recently ranked the Jets at Bills game at No. 3 on the list of "upcoming matchups that most pique his interest."

The 2023 NFL Schedule powered by AWS will be released in its entirety later this evening at 8:00 pm ET on NFL Network.

Thus far, two Jets' games are known. In addition to hosting the MNF opener against Buffalo, Gang Green will welcome AFC East rival Miami to the Meadowlands for the League's first-ever Black Friday game on November 24.
