The Aaron Rodgers Watch Heats Up for Quarterback-needy Jets

The New York Jets have reportedly held conversations with Green Bay's four-time NFL MVP

The Aaron Rodgers Watch is officially on for the New York Jets.

After free agent quarterback Derek Carr signed with the New Orleans Saints on March 6, the Jets’ quest for a veteran signal caller appears to have shifted to focus squarely on Rodgers.

Reportedly contemplating whether to return to the Green Bay Packers, request a trade to the Jets or retire from the National Football League, Rodgers has yet to make his desires known.

Meanwhile, Jets’ brass has stated its intention to acquire an experienced quarterback to run the offense in 2023.

“We’re going to be exploring the veteran quarterback market and look at every available option,” said Jets’ general manager Joe Douglas during his NFL Combine media availability.

According to Trey Wingo on Twitter, the Jets spoke with Rodgers on Monday.

Although the Packers lacked reliable receivers, the Hall of Fame-bound Rodgers is coming off a somewhat pedestrian 2022 campaign.

The four-time NFL Most Valuable Player threw 542 passes for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns to 12 interceptions as Green Bay went 8-9 and missed the playoffs. Rodgers ranked 11th overall amongst league leaders in total pass yards and his 6.8 yards per pass attempt average was the lowest since the 2015 season.

Meanwhile, four different Jets quarterbacks combined for 14 touchdown passes, 14 interceptions and a 56.98 completion percentage during the 2022 season. New York’s 6.45 yards per pass attempt ranked 27th out of 32 teams.
