LIVE BLOG: Follow Lions' Primetime Matchup at Cowboys
The Detroit Lions are looking to earn their third consecutive win Saturday when they take on the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
This season, Detroit has been successful in primetime games. The team has gone 4-0 in primetime games, including two of those wins coming in games away from home.
Their opponent, Dallas, is well aware of the threat that Detroit's offense provides. Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy admitted that the Lions' run game is as complete as he's seen this season.
"I think that's a fair assessment," McCarthy said. "Very impressed with the multiplicity of the run game, but also you've got be real impressed with the run-blocking unit and the ability of both backs to be productive. I mean, they're over 2,000 yards. I'd agree with that."
Additionally, the Cowboys had their eyes on Lions' tight end Sam LaPorta during the draft process. Observing his development from afar, McCarthy has been impressed with what he's seen.
"Oh yeah, I think he's done an excellent job. Just watching him at Iowa in person, I thought he was a complete tight end. Obviously they didn't throw the ball around the yard all day, but you could see the opportunities that he did have, his yards after catch," McCarthy said. "He's shown the ability in college and he's in a high-powered offense where his route-running definitely stands out. But I thought he was someone you can really utilize in the run-blocking and someone who could play that third tight end, moving back and forth even from the fullback position, and his numbers in the passing game speak for themselves."
