Dropped: ‘Madden' Slides Rams' Cooper Kupp Down WR Ratings?
New "Madden 24." Old Cooper Kupp? With less than a month until EA Sports releases its latest video game, some of the ratings for key players have begun to be released. And as always, Madden ratings -- as insignificant as they may be in the grand scheme of things -- create quite a bit of debate online in the final slow days before training camps open around the NFL.
From the perspective of the Los Angeles Rams, defensive tackle Aaron Donald has set a new record by being ranked with a grade of 99 - the highest possible - for the seventh year in a row, breaking the record previously owned by Hall-of-Fame quarterback Peyton Manning.
Additionally, Kupp checked with a 96, tied with Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills for the fourth-highest mark among wideouts. The only receivers with higher ratings are Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings (99), Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins (98) and Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders (97).
Now 30, Kupp was limited to just nine games a season ago because of a right ankle injury. However, when he was on the field, Kupp was one of the most productive players in the NFL, catching 75 passes for 812 yards and six touchdowns.
Of course, it will be difficult for Kupp to ever top his 2021 season, which was one of the greatest in NFL history. In his first season paired with quarterback Matthew Stafford, Kupp caught 145 passes for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns, marks that all led the NFL. That earned him the Offensive Player of the Year Award. Kupp won MVP of Super Bowl LVI, catching two touchdown passes in a 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
