Ravens RB Committee Shines in Win Over Eagles

No JK Dobbins? No problem! The Baltimore Ravens found success on the ground in their preseason victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Baltimore Ravens (1-0) beat the Philadelphia Eagles (0-1) in a 20-19 preseason thriller on Saturday night in M&T Bank Stadium.

The Ravens picked up their 24th straight preseason victory and while backup quarterback Tyler Huntley led the offense through the air, Baltimore's running back committee got the job done on the ground in JK Dobbins' absence.

Dobbins is in the middle of a contract dispute with the Ravens' front office, but even if he was not, he still likely would not have seen the field on Saturday night, as all the established starters for Baltimore had the night off.

In Dobbins' stead, Baltimore tailbacks Justice Hill, Gus Edwards, Melvin Gordon, Keaton Mitchell, and Owen Wright combined for 119 rushing yards on 25 carries, averaging 4.8 yards per carry.

Hill led the way with 48 rushing yards on just three carries, followed by Edwards with four rushes for 21 yards. Gordon, an eight-year veteran, logged 16 yards on six carries while Mitchell registered 11 yards on six attempts. Mitchell, an undrafted rookie, nearly ran for a 35-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but the play was negated due to an offensive holding penalty.

Edwards, Gordon, and Mitchell all hauled in at least one reception as well.

It was not glamorous by any means, but Baltimore's committee of tailbacks understood the assignment by churning out yards and keeping pressure off the Ravens' quarterbacks.

While fans want to see Dobbins back on the field as soon as possible, Baltimore should feel good about the talent it has in its backfield, and after Saturday's performance, likely will not be bringing out a Brinks truck anytime soon for the former Ohio State prospect.
