Ravens vs. Commanders Preview: Huntley, Other Standouts

The Ravens defense will have a chance to get after Washington's starting quarterback Sam Howell.

The Baltimore Ravens play the Washington Commanders on Monday night in the second of their three preseason games. The Ravens have a chance to extend their 24-game winning streak in the preseason dating back to 2016.

After a couple lively joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday this week, this matchup is highlighted a deeper look at preseason standouts and the offense under new offensive coordinator Todd Monken.

Quarterback Tyler Huntley looks to continue his brilliance in preseason Week 1. The fourth-year quarterback was 8-of-11 for 88 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tylan Wallace in the Ravens' win.

Baltimore first-round receiver Zay Flowers has been tormenting his teammates in training camp and against the Commanders in joint practices. Keep an eye on the rookie on Monday night as he is slated to have a large role in Baltimore's new offense. Flowers' debut in Week 1 did not jump off the page, playing only eight snaps without a catch ... However he impressed off the ball.

The Ravens defense will have a chance to get after Washington's starting quarterback Sam Howell. Commanders coach Ron Rivera named Howell QB1 after a solid performance in preseason week 1, finishing 9 for 12 with 77 yards and a touchdown.

Baltimore's many roster hopefuls try to earn their spot before Tuesday, Aug. 29, when every NFL team must reduce its roster to no more than 53 players. Washington's 16-player practice squad will then begin to form.

THE FINAL WORD: Odell Beckham Jr. is still learning the Monken playbook as he looks to get ready for Week 1 vs. the Houston Texans. His thoughts on the Ravens' new offensive style under Monken:

“I definitely think he wants to throw the ball,” Beckham Jr. said. “We got a lot of talented guys who, I think just finding ways to get the playmakers the ball in their hands and being an explosive offense. I think that’s what stands out the most.

“I think this will be an explosive offense, I think that’s the goal, to be explosive.”
