Aaron Donald to Steelers Dream May Be Over
PITTSBURGH -- The city of Pittsburgh would lose it if Aaron Donald somehow ended up in a black and gold uniform. But the storybook ending to his Hall of Fame career appears only to be a dream for those rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, not for the player himself.
Throughout the summer, rumors of Donald being traded if the Los Angeles Rams were to struggle have been maxed out. There's a strong belief he could be on the move before Week 8, and almost every fanbase is trying to find reasons he'd join their club next.
This includes the Steelers, who seemingly felt like a fairytale ending if Donald were to find his way to Pittsburgh and compete for a Super Bowl in his hometown.
Well, that dream may be dead. In Peter King's 'I Think' section of his Football Morning in America column, he writes that the desire to get Donald to Pittsburgh is only one-sided, and it's not Donald's desire.
"I think, for the record, Aaron Donald is not likely to play the twilight of his career for the Steelers. I hear it’s not a burning desire of his," King writes.
The writing on the wall may have been there before this report. The Steelers stacked their defensive line this offseason, and now have a tough decision about which big men they're keeping this season. Meanwhile, other teams seem more suited to acquire Donald's salary hit, and creating cap space for a trade they don't necessarily need may not be on Pittsburgh's agenda.
If it does happen, the city of Pittsburgh would lose it in joy. If it doesn't, well, at least everyone can say they didn't think it would happen.
