Bengals Make QB Change Before Steelers Game

The Cincinnati Bengals added a quarterback to their roster against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will not be facing Joe Burrow in Week 12, or at all this season. The Cincinnati Bengals officially placed their star quarterback on Injured Reserve, making a slight change to their QB depth chart.

The Bengals shut down Burrown after suffering a wrist injury in Week 11 against the Baltimore Ravens. With their former first-overall pick on IR, veteran backup Jake Browning will make his first start in just his third game since entering the league in 2019.

Browning completed eight of 14 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 11 loss to the Ravens. Hosting Pittsburgh in Week 12, Cincinnati will look to help their inexperienced passer grow as they continue to fight for a postseason spot.

The Bengals also added a quarterback to their roster, elevating A.J. McCarron to the active/inactive list against the Steelers. McCarron will operate as the backup to Browning before reverting back to the practice squad after the game.

McCarron, 33, started his career in Cincinnati, playing 11 games, including three starts, from 2015 to 2017. He was 2-1 as the Bengals starter, throwing for six touchdowns and two interceptions as a rookie.

The Bengals can elevate McCarron three times before having to sign him to the 53-man roster. They currently have Browning as their only active quarterback.
