Details Emerge on Bills Deal With Steelers QB
PITTSBURGH -- Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky is headed back to the Buffalo Bills, signing with the team ahead of free agency following his release from Pittsburgh. And according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the deal is for two years as he rejoins his former team.
Pelissero says Trubisky's contract is two years, worth $5.25 million, including $2.7 million guaranteed this season. The Steelers allowed the former starter to hit the open market early, hoping he could land with a team before the market opened. That has now happened, as Trubisky becomes the backup to Josh Allen once again.
The former first-round pick for the Chicago Bears signed with the Steelers after one season in Buffalo. He was awarded the starting job his first season, but was benched for then-rookie Kenny Pickett four games into the year. He was then eventually benched for third-string Mason Rudolph this past season as he filled in for an injured Pickett.
Trubisky had success in Buffalo and was viewed as a valuable backup to Allen. He'll get to continue that job as he returns, hoping to expand his career into his 30's with the Bills.
As for the Steelers, they're hoping to re-sign Rudolph and have he and Pickett compete for the starting job this summer.
