Steelers Add Extra Cap Space Before Regular Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers add some salary cap room as they head into the regular season.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have restructured the contract of wide receiver Gunner Olszewski following their initial roster reveal, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Olszewski's contract restructure will save the team roughly $600,000 heading into the 2023 season as he drops his cap hit from $2.618 to $2.026. The 26-year-old signed a two-year, $4.2 million deal with the Steelers last offseason.

The Steelers now have roughly $12.4 million in available cap space heading into Week 1, according to Spotrac.

Olszewski could see a bit more offensive playing time this season after catching just five passes for 53 yards in his first year with the Steelers. He's been a standout player throughout the summer, catching the eye of many of his teammates, including quarterback Kenny Pickett.

He'll also be viewed as a backup option as a punt and kick returner behind Calvin Austin and Anthony McFarland.
