Steelers Add Former Pitt RB to Roster
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to shut down running back Anthony McFarland for at least four games, placing him on Injured Reserve due to a knee injury. To replace him, the team has promoted former Pitt runner Qadree Ollison to the active/inactive list for Week 2.
Ollison spent Week 1 on the team's practice squad but will be active against the Cleveland Browns. The designation to the active/inactive list means he'll revert back to the practice squad after the game without having to pass through waivers.
Ollison has 22 games of NFL experience since being a fifth-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2019. He's rushed 44 times for 158 yards and five touchdowns as a pro.
The Steelers will rely on Calvin Austin and Gunner Olszewski as their kick returners without McFarland available. In the backfield, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren will remain the feature backs, with Ollison being an option if needed.
